How would you like to feel?

Framing

Hello!

Late this month, sorry. And brief.

March is moving month for me, so lots happening. However, long-story-short: I am moving out of my Ngaio house mid-March. I have a two-week stint with good friends in Upper Hutt. Then, fingers-crossed, I move into my new place in Levin.

I prefer to think of it as ‘transition’ (a positive frame), rather than ‘upheaval’ (a negative one). As such, it is exciting, a lot is still unknown, and that is the nature of the universe – She only lets us know, when we need to know! But She will let us know. So I’m cool with that.

Framing

Usually I ask my clients what they would like me to work on, or how they might like to feel after the session. We call this setting of intention ‘Framing’. It’s done at the beginning, acknowledged by both of us and released into the field of the session. It is amazing how powerful the effect of framing is on your experience of the session.

If you have some idea of your intention before you arrive it will help. Simple ideas are often the best ones. ‘Relaxation’. ‘More Energy’. ‘Calm the Farm’. If they are working for you then great, stay with those.

Some other idea’s to consider to get you thinking, though.

First, try to keep your frame positive. If, instead, you focus on the thing you want less of, it can actually amplify it. ‘More Energy’ rather than ‘Less tired’; ‘More Peaceful’ rather than ‘Less stressed’; ‘More Mobility’ rather than ‘Less pain’; ‘More Natural Coherence’ rather than ‘Less cancer; you get the picture.

As you probably know, positive mental outcomes are also beneficial for the health of the body – this is bodymind therapy after all. So please feel free to frame those, as long as they are current for you: ‘More Grounded’; ‘More Present’; ‘More Connected with others’; ‘More Positivity’; ‘More Motivation’; ‘More Loving’; ‘More Joy’ - to name a few. These will also get the attention of your cells in a good way!

If you are feeling in a good space right now, then perhaps your frame might be to enhance that by ‘Being more Grateful for all the good things in my life.’

If you are still struggling for a frame, perhaps there’s some uncertainty in your life? A default frame might be: ‘My Highest Possible Benefit’.

Or maybe you just want to be blimmin’ heard! If you feel like you are struggling to make your voice heard, have problems standing your ground with others, self-confidence, or maybe you just want to sing a little better, then we could do dedicated craniosacral mouth work for you. This frees up the neck, tongue, teeth, facial bones, including the nose, and may help release impacted cranial nerves, or sequelae of historic dental treatment. And yes, my singers have had good results too!

The immediate future: If you just don’t know what to do next in life, perhaps there’s a crisis that is sending you into overwhelm, it’s affecting sleep, and you just can’t figure it out, there may be something we can do together. By accessing a particular acupressure point on the head and handing over the question to the ‘Universe’, then an answer will almost certainly come for you, either during the session, or in the coming days.

More general future intent: This is not only about crisis. We can use similar techniques to support you as you look at positive life directions for yourself, family, career, or other big picture alternatives. Ask the Universe! It worked for Einstein … I can help you set this up.

Past Emotional Trauma: I’ve touched on this one in past emails a few times. If there is past trauma that you realise still plays a part in impacting your present-day life, and you think aspects of that may be stored in your body, the soma, then we can discuss doing a dedicated Somato Emotional Release session.

Thich Nhat Hanh, the Buddhist Spiritual leader, cautioned us touch therapists – (paraphrased) ‘When you touch someone’s body, treat them with the utmost respect, because you are also touching their mind and their soul.’ Clients often go to a very deep place during bodywork, whether they are aware of it or not. It is somewhere beyond the reach of words and conscious thought. Your ‘unconscious’ or ‘inner wisdom’ or ‘spirit’ is driving the show at this point. Whatever that place is for you, and however you later interpret it, when it happens it will always be a holistic healing opportunity for you. And you won’t forget how profound it felt.

So I encourage you to make use of framing as a starting point for your own mental, physical, and even spiritual health,

The field is wide open for any outcome you might imagine.
