Livin' in Levin - April 2025 Newsletter

Livin’ in Levin

My apologies that my April newsletter is shamefully late. But I had a good excuse.

Because I spent the last couple of weeks moving and getting established in my new digs in Levin. The picture above shows my house and therapy room which is at the front of the house.

I’m loving the feel of the town, and it’s definitely a bit warmer here. Yesterday we were enjoying a barmy autumn morning. (When I got to Ngaio that afternoon the barmy had gone, replaced by a Welly zephyr, and it felt 10 degrees cooler.) I also have established fruit trees and a few natives. The large tree you can see behind the house is a Rimu.

Luna loves having all the extra space to be responsible for, lol.

And we love being under 15 minutes’ drive to a stunning beach!

Welcome to the new people who joined me over the last month or so. This newsletter is usually monthly and shares my philosophy on living simply in the present moment, as well as contributions from leading lights in the body-mind-spirit space. And it sometimes offers perspectives on the bodywork I offer, and somato-emotional release for body-held historic trauma.

This month though, I’m largely focused on the move, my upcoming holiday, and updating what all of this means for my clinics.

Levin Clinic – 27 Read Street

Bookings are open for the new Levin clinic, and I’ve already had my first bookings. Existing clients from other clinics are welcome to come there as well, if you want a change. Please share this with anyone in the Kapiti, Horowhenua, Manawatu areas that you think might benefit.

First sessions are currently on special for $95. I also run probono/koha sessions at the end of each month at each clinic. Just contact me for details on those.

Levin clinics will definitely be held on Monday, and one other day of the week, but not the same day, each week. 8am-7pm

Ngaio Clinic – 63 Ottawa Road

Ngaio is open just two days now - Tuesday 8am-7pm and Saturday 8am-2pm.

Upper Hutt Clinic – 16 Perry Street, Heretaugna

Upper Hutt clinic at FXU Vibe is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but only two of those days each week, which will change from week to week. Those on memberships with pre-existing appointments should not be affected. 8am-7pm

One other notice concerning Upper Hutt. Monique and Chris are having a new kitchen installed upstairs in the coming weeks. So there maybe tradies and extra noise. I can offer earplugs if you need. Or I can turn the meditative music up extra loud, lol. Or you can wear your own headphones if you prefer.

Appointment Rescheduling

Occasionally it may be necessary for me to reschedule appointments to consolidate days. You will appreciate the logistics I need to work through, with the extra travel from Levin now. I will try to give as much notice as possible when I need to do this.

Music

Normally I play innocuous relaxing music in the background during my sessions, from Spotify. If you’d rather hear the Carpenters, Iron Maiden, Mozart’s Greatest Hits, or anything else, or nothing, just let me know.

The Dog – Luna

Many of you have met Luna, our small Mini Schnauzer, in my clinics now. She was my wife’s dog, and being a 7-year-old house pet, I can’t really leave her at home. So she’s now putting in regular appearances at Upper Hutt and Ngaio clinics. She may bark or growl when you arrive, but she’s very friendly, and usually settles down on her mat after she’s said hello.

If you are concerned in any way about having a dog in the room, it is absolutely no problem to take her out during the session.

Levin clients will probably hear her, but not see her, unless they really want to!

My Holiday in June

I am taking June off to travel to see my wife’s family in The Netherlands, and I’m taking half of her ashes with me. It feels like a cathartic thing to do for me now.

For those on memberships, if you want extra appointments before or after June, please let me know. However, May appointments are rapidly filling up now. Otherwise, we will skip June and I’ll reschedule your payments accordingly. Please forgive me if I forget to move a payment – let me know and we will work it out when I return.

Energy Boost Idea

If you’re feeling a bit low on energy, then maybe try something new.

Join an origami club (in person), go to the gym, go walk on the beach and throw the ball for your dog. Go see a sports event, theatre, rock concert, or the Zoo. Watching kids’ reactions to animals is priceless, even if they aren’t your own.

Or go do some volunteer work once a month somewhere. Sometimes helping others gives us a big energy boost as well.

At the very least reach out to a friend if you’re feeling a bit down. No where is it writ that we have to do life on our own. The main thing is to open up your mind to new trains of thought, and especially in places where there might be other people or beings, enjoying the same space, doing something positive together. This joint energy has a multiplying effect.

My first memorable experience of this was being at the closing ceremony of the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch. I was about 11. The track was inundated with athletes from all over the world in different coloured trackies, all mingling, waving and dancing, and generally having a ball. Everyone in the crowd was joining in, they were all laughing and clapping. I have never forgotten the most infectious feeling of joint love energy on a mega scale that I’ve ever experienced.

But equally Bon Jovi live might do that for you, or a brilliant NZSO performance.

Try something new.

Pro Bono / Koha Days

One free day each month for anyone in need. Koha is gratefully accepted if you are able, no obligation. Just contact me for details to book.

Please share my website, or this page, with anyone you know that may benefit. Or click on this link to book now.
