Meet Rhys

I am a 62 year old Bodymind therapist based in Ngaio and Upper Hutt in the Wellington region. A former career as an EMT was curtailed by an injury.

I transitioned to practicing bodywork in 2018 when I qualified as a certified Zero Balancing Practitioner. I presently work with 20 to 30 clients each week from 2 year old children to the elderly.

I like to immerse in meditation in various ways, attend daylong retreats, and I am on a spiritual path, as I think most of us are. By 'opening the heart, quieting the mind' as Ram Dass would say, I like to keep life relatively simple, and deeply rewarding.

Also I have found that for me, giving bodywork is best done in a semi-meditative state, with quiet mind and open awareness. Coming from a calm, peaceful place myself, helps clients relax more quickly.

Receiving my own bodywork therapy has allowed me to resolve physical ailments, as well as work on the residue of historic life events.

I am presently working through certification as a Craniosacral Therapist. I regularly attend further trainings each year in my chosen modalities with international experts.

I live in Ngaio with an ultra-cute schnauzer, Luna!

I enjoy swimming, walking Luna, being in nature, cooking, listening to music, travelling and learning more health and healing. However, my biggest teachers are my clients, it is my privilege to work with them - everyday they and their bodies show me something new. I love that!

Present Moment Awareness Advice

Bodywork is critical, because unresolved trauma whatever the source, is invariably held in the body - releasing the physical tension can have a profound effect on our mental health and well-being. The most important result is our capacity to function actively in the here and now.

Clients commonly present with feelings of stress, anxiety, anger, depression, exhaustion, shame or guilt, to name a few.

These can manifest with malaise or highly strung, multiple pain points, and generally fed up.

They usually leave relaxed, recentered, feeling 'like their old self' again, more mobile with less pain, more energy, and critically, with more hope.

I optionally offer idea's for clients on maintaining presence and equanimity beyond the therapy room, if they want that.

Hi! I’m Rhys Dwyer

Rhys Dwyer

Everything changed for me following my first Zero Balancing session. Crippling foot arthritis disappeared permanently, along with the after-effects of a severe knee injury that had stopped my paramedic career 3 years earlier. I felt like I was walking on air after that first session, I walked for miles, and I have not stopped!

The following day I felt deep a sense of calm and “being in my old self”, that I realised I had not known in years. While the physical symptoms have gone, the greater transformation has been in my personal growth since then, which I know has brought me to an amazing state of wellness, and happiness. That’s what has led to great physical health.

The wonder of that change in 2016 has never left me, and I’ve since committed my life to bringing a similar experience of physical and mental well-being for others.
